IADIS Announces 2013 CELDA Conference Location

Posted September 16, 2012 - The University of North Texas College of Information (UNT-COI) will be hosting the 2013 meeting of the International Conference called Cognition and Exploratory Learning in the Digital Age (CELDA) in October 2013. The conference will be held at the Sheraton Fort Worth Hotel and Spa located in Fort Worth, Texas.

The CELDA (Cognition and Exploratory Learning in the Digital Age) Conference is sponsored by the International Association for the Development of the Internet Society (IADIS).  The CELDA Conference aims to address the main issues concerned with evolving learning processes and supporting pedagogies and applications in the digital age. There have been advances in both cognitive psychology and computing that have affected the educational arena. The convergence of these two disciplines is increasing at a fast pace and affecting academia and professional practice in many ways. Paradigms such as just-in-time learning, constructivism, student-centered learning and collaborative approaches have emerged and are being supported by technological advancements such as simulations, virtual reality and multi-agent systems. These developments have created both opportunities and areas of serious concerns. This conference aims to cover both technological as well as pedagogical issues related to these developments. Main tracks have been identified. However innovative contributions that do not easily fit into these areas will also be considered as long as they are directly related to the overall theme of the conference – cognition and exploratory learning in the digital age. The conference is now in its eighth year - the 2013 conference will be the ninth. Every conference has resulted in a special issue of a major international refereed journal with a half dozen authors of the top-ranked papers invited to contribute an expanded version of their conference paper. In addition, there is now a dedicated Springer book series with additional authors invited to contribute expanded versions as chapters.

More information about the conference will be forthcoming.

Michigan Chapter of AECT (MIAECT) Announces 2012-2013 Design in Detroit Series

Posted September 16, 2012 - The Michigan Chapter of AECT (MIAECT) will be kicking off the 2012-2013 MIAECT calendar year on September 27th, with "Design Thinking", hosted by Dr. Monica Tracey at the D:hive in Detroit, Michigan.

So often we jump into our cars, and interact with the world throughout each day without once thinking about the one common element that connects almost every object we interact with.  Design.  From the smart-phones in our pockets, to the street lights over our heads; design is where almost everything begins.  This year MIAECT is focusing on taking a closer, and more hands on look at what design is, and what it means to those who practice design each and every day.  What better place to host a year of design thinking than in the heart of design, Detroit Michigan.  Detroit is home to designers from all industries, from automotive, to the arts, education and more.  Design is something we all do in one way or another as we build our ideas from thoughts in our heads or scratches on paper and screens, into finished products.  Join MIAECT as we take a closer look at how design drives Detroit, and how it does and can drive you.
