What is the purpose of D&D in our field? Locked Topic 2 A. Mendenhall The second sentence, which begins "The purpose of the Division..." is not really a purpose (or a mission) statement at all, but instead an attempt to define the field.  I suggest a complete overhaul that refocuses the statement more squarely within the intended the mission of the organization itself instead. So, terms like "represents the interests" should be replaced by the concrete things D&D does to advance thinking in design and development:  facilitates conversation among its members; instigates, encourages, and disseminates progress in concepts and practice (to borrow from E. Boling); provides an outlet for disseminating both empirical scholarly work as well as practitioner case studies, contributes to the creation of standards for academic programs, and the like.
