Purpose of the Committee:
1-Manage AECT association awards including: Distinguished Service, Special Service, Spector Appreciation, Jonassen Excellence in Research, Annual Achievement and any additional awards and scholarships as required. Forward recommended candidates to AECT Executive Committee for review. Work as needed with other committees and divisions managing association awards, as well as the ECT Foundation.
2. Assist Executive Director in receiving all AECT association and division award recipient names and other relevant information by specified dates in advance of the annual convention to facilitate convention program entries, creation of plaques, encumbrance of cash awards, as well as other archival, reporting and related purposes.
3. Recommend to the AECT Executive Committee revisions and updates to the Awards Committee section of the AECT Policy & Information Manual.
4. Recommend modifications to existing awards. including nomination and selection procedures, as well as the development of new awards.
The committee consists of at least six regular members with rotating appointments to fill three-year terms beginning officially at the end of the annual convention. The President-elect (incoming President at convention) appoints the committee and names one member as chairperson who must have been a member of AECT for at least ten (10) years.
In addition to considering a number of issues and needs during the year, Awards Committee members chair and serve on award subcommittees that review nominations submitted by the AECT membership including committee members. Each subcommittee includes both Awards Committee members and non-members including a previous recipient of the award. Subcommittees submit selected candidates to the chair for consideration by the full Awards Committee. The chair then forwards recommendations to the AECT Executive Committee.
